Over the years, I’ve interviewed most of the major players in raw foods around the world. It fascinates me to learn from those who successfully sustain a lifestyle that many consider extreme. But more importantly, when building culture, I believe it’s vital that we put ourselves in the context of those who have gone before. We can only contribute in a meaningful way when we know where we come in the timeline. This current immersion in the ephemera of the present moment is, to me, one of the greatest tragedies of our current culture. I feel I learn much more by studying who has paved the way for where we find ourselves, than by paying too much attention to who is getting all the likes and followers right now.

In terms of what we now recognise as the raw vegan lifestyle, the giants that we stand on the shoulders of are Ann Wigmore and Viktoras Kulvinskas, they are the two visionaries that laid the foundation stones for what we now recognise as the living foods movement. Cherie Soria studied with Ann and Viktoras, and is often referred to as “the mother of raw vegan cuisine.” She founded the Living Light Institute in California in 1997, one of the leading raw food chef schools in the world. Now in her late 70’s, she is still a radiant example of glowing health, and her main passion is running ultra-marathons!
